Advisory: This performance includes loud music and a short scene with strobe lighting.

Political Mother was the boldest work he’s made yet, a compelling chorus of wailing electric guitars and driving drums, folk dance, crazed dictators and dramatic lighting, along with filmic effects . . . quite the coup de theatre.”
Time Out, UK

Hofesh Shechter returns with his critically acclaimed Political Mother, after his sold-out debut of Uprising/In your rooms last year. Described as “part dance show, part heavyrock gig... an audio-visual marvel”, Hofesh’s first full length creation cranks up the ferocity and energy of his inimitable style, marked by its raw physicality, urban vibes and folk dance unisons.

Pulsating live music, extraordinary ensemble sequences and cinematic editing make Political Mother a dance experience like no other. This searing work is a forceful interrogation of community and nationhood, and the ways they are manipulated and twisted in the pursuit of power. Dancers set the stage ablaze to the thunderous sounds of Hofesh’s original music performed live by an ensemble of military drummers and electric guitarists.

Propulsive, forceful and possessed of savage beauty, Political Mother is a masterful work from one of the most exciting minds in contemporary dance.
