Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay is one of the world's busiest performing arts centre, officially opened on 12 October 2002.This architectural and cultural icon, with its striking twin shells, sits on six hectares of prime waterfront land by Marina Bay, part of Singapore's civic district comprising other heritage, arts and entertainment facilities.

Esplanade houses world-class performance spaces, supported by a comprehensive range of professional support facilities and services.Its programmes cater to its diverse audiences. The Esplanade Presents brand carries the mark of quality, and programmes span all genres to encompass music, dance, theatre and visual arts, with a special emphasis on Asian culture.


Esplanade's 2,000-seat Theatre is an adaptation of the traditional horseshoe form of European opera houses, which provides an intimate setting between the audience and the artists on stage. Spread over four levels, it houses Singapore's largest stage, and is designed for the presentation of Asian and Western performing arts as well as advanced multi-media performances.

The Theatre's feature include an adjustable proscenium arch, two other full-sized ancillary stages which facilitate swift scene changes, a 30m high fly tower, and an adjustable orchestra pit that can hold up to 100 musicians.


Esplanade's crown jewel is its 1,600-seat Concert Hall, which boasts superb acoustics by world-renowned acoustician Russell Johnson of Artec Consultants Inc, USA. The hall can host a diverse range of musical performances and has been acclaimed by top performers around the world. Among its adjustable acoustic features are reverberation chambers and an acoustic canopy that enables the hall to effortlessly adapt to different music genres and cultures without compromising quality.


The Theatre Studio is an intimate setting for experimental theatre and dance presentations. The performance space is highly flexible, offering various configurations with retractable seating, and can take up to 220 people. Equipped with highly adaptable staging, lighting and sound systems, it is able to accommodate different staging demands.



The fan-shaped Recital Studio is the ideal setting for performances from chamber music and solo recitals, cabarets and jazz concerts. In addition to its timber flooring, the studio's wall and ceiling finishes are specially designed to ensure superb acoustics.



Similar in size to the Theatre Studio stage, the studio is specifically designed for dance rehearsals and pre-performance warm-up sessions.



A popular meeting point for visitors, traditional asian dances will be performed here every evening during da:ns.



Fronting the 300m long waterfront along Marina Bay, the Outdoor Theatre can seat 450 people and and take up to 600 standing. The space hosts a range of performances from music to dance and theatre which can all be enjoyed under the starlit sky.



Located at the entrance of Esplanade, What's Your Move dance demonstations and outdoor social dancing will take place here.
